High Quality, Fancy and Cheap Subnotebooks that Fit in any Pocket
After some buyers of the ASUS Eee PC considered sueing ASUS for providing incomplete source code for the software on the Eee PC, ASUS reacted and omitted having done this by mistake and not by purpose. As now all parts of the source code have been correctly released ASUS is now complying to the General Public License (GPL) attached to the Xandros Linux distribution.
The ASUS Eee PC 701 USA Version will be released in the next days and will feature 1024 MB RAM and a solid-state disk with a size of 8 gigabytes. It will also come with a 4-cell battery which allows for an average usage of 3.5 hours. Thanks to the installed Xandros Linux this battery life really seems realistic, however it remains to be seen how long this will run on the other operating systems that you can install on the Eee laptop series, like Windows or MacOS X.
According to a statement of Holger Schmidt on November 9th, 2007, the upcoming ASUS subnotebook called "8G" will come with a 10" display. In an article of the Austrian Standard he stated that there should be enough space available to feature the 10" display and also keep to the current measures of the subnotebook.
